Tynemouth Pier extends 900 metres out to sea and the walk to the pier lighthouse is rewarded with views of the river entrance and back towards Tynemouth Priory & Castle. The pier is a Grade II Listed building and dates back to Victorian times when its construction was a major feat of engineering. Local people and visitors enjoy walks along the pier to get some bracing fresh air in their lungs.
The pier is often open to the public in hours of daylight, except during weather conditions that could endanger the public, but visitors are strongly advised to check the current opening times with the landowners, Port of Tyne, prior to visiting. For more information call 0191 455 2671.
