This attractive externally tiled free house was built in 1799 and has featured in every issue of the Guide since 1983 - the local CAMRA branch presented the licensee with a certificate for this achievement in 2009. The comfortable U-shaped lounge, with a bar on one side and a hatch on the other, is noted in the area for its Scottish ales and for selling reputedly the hightest volume of Draught Bass on Tyneside.
