This attractive externally tiled free house was built in 1799 and has featured in every issue of the Guide since 1983 - the local CAMRA branch presented the licensee with a certificate for this achievement in 2009. The comfortable U-shaped lounge, with a bar on one side and a hatch on the other, is noted in the area for its Scottish ales and for selling reputedly the hightest volume of Draught Bass on Tyneside. The pub is near the Coast to Coast cycle route. No TV. No music. No short measures. No parking problems. No hot food. No gaming machines.
